Major Conversion - Lengthening of RO/RO Vessel

 

193,3m long of RO/RO vessel has been lengthened with a parallel insertion block of 30m net length and also all activities have been executed for scrubber retrofit. The conversion includes the lengthening newbuilding structure, the reinforcement regarding new dimensions, moments and draughts acc. to DnVGL Rules and Regulations, changes regarding rules e.g. MARPOL 12A, PSPC and scrubber retrofit.

 

 

 

Design & Practice

 

The concept design work for the conversion was performed by Owner’s design contractor and approved by DnVGL as the vessel’s classification society. The 3D modelling and detail design activities have been executed by Gemak Group’s own in-house design department including hull and pipe/outfitting disciplines.

 

 

 

Work Description

Lengthening;

 

· Building of an insertion new block including hull and all piping/outfitting finalized with all coating activities.

· Cutting of the vessel at dry dock and moving of forward part by Gemak Group’s owned skidding system.

· Alignment of insertion block and forward part to aft part within ±5mm tolerance.

· Outer shell and inside reinforcement due to longitudinal strength.

· Structural reinforcement against bottom slamming and bow impact.

· Collising bulkhead re-positioning.

· New structural ventilation ducts.

· Structural modification acc. to Marpol requirements (new double bottom and inner hull for the forward fuel oil tanks).

· Related modifications for all piping systems.

Scrubber Retrofit;
 
· New funnel block built and modified the existing one.

 · New scrubber towers have been located in new funnel structure.

 
· New NaOH tank built and mounted on deck.

 
· New seachest and overboard have been added for scrubber system.

 
· New Scrubber Equipment Room built and fitted with all related equipments.


· Related modifications for all piping systems and electricity.
