Conversion of singe hull to double hull

6,808 DWT Dutch flag oil/chemical tanker M/V "SARA" belongs to Seatrade Groningen B.V. of Holland had been converted to double hull bunker barge.

Design & practice

Gemak Shipyard has completed the whole conversion in turn-key basis. Design work for double hull and deck modification, installation of new heating coils including workshop drawings were all carried out by Gemak Shipyard in house, and approved by BV.

Conversion to double hull

|
Design, fabrication and installation of side bulkheads, including renewal of corresponding deck plating which is cut for access and other additions to existing structure such as supports, web frames, beams, etc., paint rectification and outfiting of new void spaces, such as manholes, ladders, etc. were the major part of the job.

Deck modifications
|
|
|
|
|
New HFO/GO blender installed on deck with all related work such as necessary foundation, related piping and new cargo crossovers.
|
|
New mooring winches installed on main deck with new foundations, necessary piping work and new fairleads, in order to improve ship's manoeuvrability.
|
|
One (I) transfer vertical screw conveyor Sec 401-350 t/h 6.5 m, 26 kW
|

Bow construction has been modified. Existing bulwark between Frames 134 and 138 cropped out and inclined towards centerline, forecastle deck renewed as necessary, ladders main dect to forecastle, chocks and bollards were relocated.

New Yokohama fenders installed on deck with foundation and lashing eyes.
|
|
|

|
Deck modifications

Vessel stayed 4 months at the yard in which total 300 tons new steel installed on board.
